All your units can also level up that adds a nice mix to the game. You can even make your own hero, but I would have liked to see more options, many for the looks of your hero's. You also have hero's and special abilities, much like WarCraft and Age of Mythology. This will mean moving your army's around and if you move into land were there is an enemy army then you can go into the RTS battle. So, with the campaign map you get to take land, this give give you X bonus, and on that land you can make X amount of buildings that will help you over all. It is a mix between Total War's campaign map and the RTS game play, all set in Middle Earth. Next is The War of the Ring mode, this is great. Something that RTS's seem to be moving away from, I think its great. The battles are just like your good old RTS, with resource gathering and base building. I have yet to play all the game modes but I have to say that this game is very good.

I would like to give this game a 4.5/5, but there is none and this isn't by far the "Best Strategy Game Out There" so a 4 must do. This game is also very fun to play online with surprising strategies available. Even though the game could have still used a bit of improvements and at times felt a tad shallow, it entertained me for several hours. When Battle for Middle Earth 2 arrived, it felt as if my wishes were granted. I wanted to be able to build anywhere I wanted, more units and sides available and a better graphics engine. However, the game experiance felt limited both by graphics and gameplay options. I bought the original Battle for Middle Earth within a week of its release and fairly enjoyed the game. Battle for Middle-earth II also includes built-in support for clans as well as a tournament ladder system for multiplayer competition. After players suffer defeat or emerge victorious, a detailed timeline will show statistics for units, structures, resources, and other pertinent information. Each faction's 12 powers are divided among three talent trees, with lower branches accessible only after acquiring top-tier powers. These abilities are purchased using power points, earned through combat by defeating enemies.

Men, dwarves, and elves are pitted against goblins and the dark forces of both Isenguard and Mordor, with each faction offering its own technology, powers, buildings, and units to master. Players will command one of six factions in a choice of game modes. Fans will return to the besieged world of Middle-earth to actively participate in the War of the North, where dwarves and elves struggle to repel invasions in the Misty Mountains, Dol Guldur, Mirkwood, Rivendell, and other notable locales.
